In a statement yesterday, the faction said that Gatluak will be accompanied by his deputy and senior members of the South Sudan United Front and will hold a press conference upon arrival at a local hotel in the capital Juba.
“The Chairman will be accompanied by his deputy and other high ranking political and military officials of SSUF/A- ND in this peace mission, that we believe will be a turning point for the people of South Sudan with the message – it is a high time for South Sudanese to learn how to bring solutions to South Sudanese problems through dialogue,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the aim of the visit is to boost “confidence building and to layout the way forward of the peace process.”
“The team will board the plane on Monday Morning June 12, 2023, from Jomo Kenyatta international airport and are expected to arrive at Juba International Airport at 8:00am Juba Local time,” it added.
Gatluak broke away from General Paul Malong Awan, the founder of the rebel group, earlier this year after alleging that international sanctions imposed on Malong hamper regional and international mobilization and that Malong cannot visit forces on the ground.
He proposed a home—grown solution to the conflict between them and the government and urged South Sudanese shunt violence and use peaceful means to address grievances in an attempt to bring the divided communities of the country together.
