WASHINGTON – Acclaimed Sudanese musician Mohamed El-Amin breathed his last on Sunday at the age of 80 while undergoing medical treatment in the United States.

The Sudanese embassy in Washington officially confirmed El-Amin’s passing on Sunday evening.

Born in Wad Madeni, Al Gezira State, in 1943, El-Amin emerged as a pivotal figure in contemporary Sudanese music, instrumental in its evolution and international recognition.

El-Amin’s musical journey commenced at an early age, with him mastering the flute and oud by the age of 12.

He pursued his education in Wad Madeni schools, honing his oud skills under the tutelage of Mohammed Fadl, a musician and close friend of El-Amin.

The 1960s marked the beginning of El-Amin’s illustrious career, establishing himself as one of Sudan’s most celebrated musicians.

His musical repertoire spanned over 100 albums, captivating audiences with their enchanting melodies and profound lyrics.

Beyond his musical prowess, El-Amin also garnered acclaim as an actor, gracing the screens of several films and television shows.

His exceptional contributions to the arts were recognized by the Sudanese government in 2003, when he was bestowed with the prestigious Order of Merit for Arts and Literature.

El-Amin’s passing leaves a void in the Sudanese music scene. His legacy as a gifted musician and cultural icon will continue to inspire and entertain audiences worldwide for generations to come.
