A team of three staff members from the Avasi agricultural company was traveling to Gurmar in Wulu County when they were intercepted by a group of armed assailants at approximately 2:00PM local time.
The attackers, numbering six, were armed with guns and sticks.
In the ensuing confrontation, one of the humanitarian workers sustained a gunshot wound to the head, while the other two were severely beaten.
The assailants made off with over 500,000 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP) in cash, along with mobile phones and other personal belongings.
The injured worker was transported to a local medical facility in Wulu County for treatment, where their condition is currently being assessed.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are actively searching for the perpetrators.
“This is not the first time we have encountered such attacks in this region,” said Major Elijah Mabor Makuac, a police spokesperson. “We are committed to bringing these criminals to justice.”
Angelina Adhel, chairperson of the Civil Society Network in Lakes State, condemned the attack and expressed deep concern for the safety of humanitarian workers operating in the area.
“This incident highlights the growing insecurity faced by humanitarian organizations and their staff,” Adhel said.
“It is crucial that the government takes swift and decisive action to protect civilians and aid workers.”
