KHARTOUM – Sudan’s rebellious paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Friday morning seized control of the city of Al-Suki in Sudan’s Sennar state. Fighting around the city began on Thursday morning with clashes continuing to Friday morning.
RSF fighters, in videos geolocated by Sudans Post, could be seen in several locations including the police station and the main public hospital. The city has been without internet for weeks hindering communications with local committees.
In a statement seen by Sudans Post, the RSF announced that it has taken “full control” of the city, noting that it also captured at 21combat vehicles and killed over 150 soldiers belonging to the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).
“Continuing the series of fierce victories of our forces over the Burhan militia, the terrorist Islamic Movement brigades, and the movements’ mercenaries; Today, Wednesday, our forces extended full control over “Al-Suki” in Sennar State, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy in equipment and lives,” said the statement posted on Telegram.
“Our forces seized 21 vehicles with all their military equipment, a C-5 cannon, burned 4 vehicles, killed more than 150 members of the Burhan militia and terrorist brigades, and various weapons and ammunition, captured dozens, and others fled and are being pursued,” it added.
Despite videos showing RSF fighters in the center of the city, field sources allied with the SAF dismissed the RSF claim, saying that SAF soldiers are still in Suki and are in contrast to earlier claims that they had withdrawn from the city.
“The fighting is still raging, and the battles in Suki are ongoing. The Sudanese forces on the ground are achieving tangible victories. As long as we are on the right path, we will succeed,” said Ammar Hassan, leader of the popular resistance in Senar.
Suki is located about 38 kilometers southeast of Senar city and on the eastern side of the Blue Nile River. It is one of many major cities that have fallen to the RSF since mid-June.
The RSF has previously captured Sinja, the state capital where the 17th Infantry Division is located, Dinder and Mazmoum.
