RSF seizes control of strategic area near Sennar town

SENNAR – The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Monday seized control of the strategic Jebel Moya area in Sennar State, disrupting a key transport route between Sennar and White Nile State’s capital Rabak, according to witnesses and RSF statements.

The RSF claimed its forces “successfully liberated the area of Mount Moya,” located about 24 kilometers west of Sennar town and 67 kilometers from Rabak. They further stated capturing vehicles, destroying others, and inflicting “severe losses on the enemy.”

Sudans Post could not independently verify the RSF’s claims regarding casualties or captured equipment.

However, videos circulated on social media by pro-RSF accounts showed images of what appeared to be dozens of deceased Sudanese army soldiers.

Eyewitnesses reported hundreds of residents from Jabal Moya villages fleeing towards Sinja town or Rabak on Tuesday.

The RSF soldiers, in videos circulating online, could be seen appealing to top fleeing residents to stay.

The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has not yet commented on the development, but Ammar Hassan, spokesman of the pro-SAF popular resistance in Sennar State, acknowledged the RSF’s control in a social media post.

“Unfortunately, after continuous battles in which your forces made every effort, the Jebel Moya area in Sennar state fell into the hands of the rebel militia, and work is underway to restore it,” he wrote on Facebook.

Jebel Moya holds strategic importance due to its location on the main highway connecting White Nile State with Sennar State and eastern Sudan.

Its capture by the RSF adds pressure to Sennar city, already facing threats from the north.
