KHARTOUM, JUNE 15, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – Supporters of Sudan’s rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are calling for a boycott of Al Jazeera Mubasher presenter Ahmed Taha, claiming that the Egyptian journalist is a spy working for Sudan’s Islamists.
The accusations were made on social media after Taha hosted one of the field commanders of the Rapid Support Forces, where he asked tough questions such as where the leader of the rebel group, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, is and why he cannot come out.
In a Facebook post, activist Hussein El-Lokam said Taha is a biased journalist and is a spy of Sudan’s Islamists.
“This is a man who is biased towards the Kizan. I classified him as a spy,” he wrote.
Another user who calls himself ‘Eye of the Victory’ said Ahmed Taha “belongs to the bankrupt Muslim Brotherhood,” and that “It is useless to talk to him.”
However, activist Mohamed Mujtaba disputed the accusations and said Ahmed Taha always asks his guests to get the truth and that he is one of the successful journalists and has no connection with the parties in Sudan.
“No, on the contrary, this man supports the people and supports the revolutions. He is only trying to reach the truth, and this is from professional honesty,” Mohamed wrote, before adding “My brother, your post is not professional.”
Fighting broke out in Sudan in April after the RSF launched attacks on army and government positions in the capital Khartoum.
Nealy 1000 people have been killed and more than 2 million have been displaced from their homes.
