Rubkona residents condemn ‘power-hungry politicians’ vying to replace commissioner

Residents of Unity State’s Rubkona County have expressed furry and anger at a group of politicians lobbying to replace the county commissioner, Gatluak Wichar Nyah, who was appointed in 2021 on the ticket of the main armed opposition SPLM-IO led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

BENTIU – Residents of Unity State’s Rubkona County have expressed furry and anger at a group of politicians lobbying to replace the county commissioner, Gatluak Wichar Nyah, who was appointed in 2021 on the ticket of the main armed opposition SPLM-IO led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

Eighteen (18) politicians mostly from the SPLM-IO have submitted bids to replace Gatluak who they accused of doing nothing to the floods-affected citizens.

But speaking to Sudans Post this morning, several residents of Rubkona said they don’t agree with the politicians’ lobby to replace the commissioner, describing the 18 politicians as a group of power-hungry individuals seeking to extend their CVs, but have nothing to deliver.

“The list is long, but all of them are just people who are hungry for power and have nothing to deliver to the people of Rubkona County. They are people who only care for their stomach and have nothing to share with the people of this county,” one woman told Sudans Post in Rubkona.

“Their argument for the proposed replacement of Commissioner Gatluak is that he has not constructed road to Dingding in order to motivate the citizens to live there to provide services to the soldiers who are there, but this is a false claim because these soldiers should ask their leadership in Juba to bring them food and service,” the local woman added.

Another resident who requested not to be named said most politicians are making the lobby with funding from Unity State minister of housing Lam Tungwar Kueiguong  who he accused of working to cause disagreements within the main armed opposition group.

“Most of them are Lam Tungwar’s men, so we cannot trust them. They are deployed by the SPLM-IG to come to Rubkona and cause problems among the peace-loving people of Rubkona County and the membership of the SPLM-IO. But we will not accept that,” he said.

“Gatluak has been doing his best to make sure that he serves his people, but the governor and these power-hungry politicians including these candidates have been preventing him from doing what he could to serve the people so that they come out tomorrow and say look, this man is doing nothing. But we know all their plans,” he added.
