JUBA – Authorities in Rubkona County of South Sudan’s Unity state are reporting that an underage girl has given birth to a deformed child, blaming oil pollution in the oil-rich Unity state for the increasingly rising deformed births.

Yam Ruot Gatdet, the director of Rubkona County Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) told Sudans Post on Thursday that the unidentified underage girl gave birth to the deformed child at a local hospital ran by Care International in Rubkona town during the early hours of Thursday.

“The child you see was born at Care center but I don’t have details. I haven’t asked the little girl where she comes from, but all I know is that the girl is underage, she might be between sixteen and seventeen,” Yam said from Rubkona referring to pictures of the child.

The senior local government official further said the child was still alive as of Thursday.
