JUBA – The ruling SPLM faction under the leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit has condemned last week’s killing of Clement Wani Konga, the former Central Equatoria state governor, who was killed a few kilometers outside the capital Juba.
Lawrence Clement Wani was murdered while driving to a family farm long Juba-Terekeka road by a group of unknown gunmen sparking clashes among the Mundari at Lado Mountain the following day.
In a statement on Thursday, Jemma Nunu Kumba, the acting SPLM Secretary-General conveyed the party’s condolence to the family of the young man and said the ruling faction condemns the killing.
“On behalf of the entire membership of SPLM under the leadership of Cde. H.E Salva Kiir Mayardit, Chairman of the SPLM and the President of the Republic of South Sudan and on my own behalf, I wish to take this opportunity to convey our heartfelt condolences to Gen. Clement Wani Konga and his family on the untimely death of his son, Eng. Lawrence Wani at his young age,” the senior SPLM official and minister said.
“The SPLM condemns in the strongest possible terms the barbaric killing that has robbed the life of the innocent young cadre and professional. This is not a great lost only for the family, but a great lost to the Community of Mundari and Equatoria in particular and South Sudan in general,” she added.
She further called for an immediate investigation into the killing which she said will result in the prosecution of the perpetrators.
“We urge the concerned authorities to investigate the incident and not leave any stone unturned to bring the perpetrators to book,” she said.
