S. Sudan army, Kenyan counterpart to conduct join training along border

JUBA – South Sudan’s army chief, General Johnson Juma Akot, and his Kenyan counterpart, General Robert Kariuki Kibochi, have agreed that the two countries’ armies will conduct a join military training along the South Sudan-Kenyan border, according to a statement by the Kenyan defense ministry.

General Akot visited Kenya on Thursday last week, in a trip where he was campaigned by South Sudan’s military intelligence chief, General Ring Tueny Mabor, along with several army senior commanders.

“General Robert K Kibochi today, received his South Sudan People’s Defence Force (SSPDF) counterpart General Johnson J Okot at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi. During the visit Gen Okot and his delegation were briefed on Kenya’s perspective on Regional Security,” the Kenyan Defense Forces said in a statement seen by Sudans Post.

“In their deliberations both CDF’s gave their highest assurance and consideration in support of areas of collaboration between KDF and SSPDF. Some of the areas for further engagement included; joint training, ensuring security along the common borders, and also exchange knowledge, information and ideas,” the brief statement added.

The statement further added that the “SSPDF delegation also visited various Ministry of Defence (MOD) training institutions namely; the Defence Staff College (DSC), Karen, International Peace Support Training Centre Kenya. Ipstc-KENYA, Karen and the Defence Forces Technical College (DEFTEC) Embakasi.

“The guard of honour for the visiting general was mounted by the Kenya Air Force.”
