KHARTOUM – A high-level delegation from South Sudan led by the country’s defense minister, Angelina Teny, which arrived in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Monday has met senior Sudanese officials to discuss the implementation of the landmark 2012 cooperation agreement.

The delegation which also include South Sudan’s interior minister, General Paul Mayom Akec and foreign minister, Beatrice Khamis Wani, was received by senior Sudanese officials including the country’s defense minister.

In a brief statement on Tuesday, James Gatdet, the press secretary for First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny, said the implementation of the cooperation agreement was being discussed at the meeting in Khartoum.

“Implementation of the September 2012 Cooperation Agreements with the sisterly (motherly) country, Sudan, is now rolling,” said the senior opposition and government official.

“Top South Sudanese security and foreign service officials are in Khartoum for talks…Led by the Defense Minister, Hon. Angelina Teny, other senior officials in the delegation include the Minister of Interior, Hon. Paul Mayom and Foreign Affairs Minister, Hon. Beatrice Khamis, among others,” he added.

Separately, the official Sudan News Agency reported that the meetings between the two countries’ officials discussed the implementation of the deal and will continue until on Thursday.

“They will discuss the processes in the demilitarized zone, the issues of crossings between the two countries, the reports of the UNICEF forces, and a number of common issues and issues of concern to the mechanism.”
