JUBA/BENTIU – South Sudan’s Rubkona community has appealed to president Salva Kiir Mayardit to appoint leader of National People’s Alliance Movement (NPAM) Gen. Ruai Kuol Jal as the next governor of Unity state.
This is after Kiir accepted an opposition demand to revoke the controversial 32 states and return the oil-rich South Sudan to its original ten states.
In a statement issued this week, many traditional chiefs and community leaders from Rubkona’s Leek community said Gen. Ruai who was the opposition governor of Liech state before defecting to form his own group, was the right person to administer the state as the country enters transition.
“It is our great pleasure to congratulate the President of the Republic of South Sudan Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit on the return of the country to its original ten States in the interest of peace, we greatly appreciate that,” the Leek community statement signed by traditional chiefs and community leaders partly reads.
“We as Rubkona community do hereby requesting your excellency to consider our request to appoint Gen. Ruai Kuol Jal as the Governor of Unity State,” the statement added.
The community leaders said General Ruai who is believed to have a very good experience in handling land disputes is a “hard working person who is politically informed and can also be instrumental in creating the initiatives aimed at developing the state and unite the people of Unity State.”
They further said the former lawmaker can be “play an active role in the border negotiation with Sudan if given an opportunity as a leader in Unity.”
