AL FAO — A senior Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) commander was killed in clashes with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the town of Tambuol on Tuesday.
Both SAF and RSF security officials said Brigadier-General Ahmed Sha’eddin, the army commander of Tambuol front, was killed while fighting with his forces in an attempt to defend the city after entering during early hours of Tuesday.
Sha’eddin had welcomed Major-General Abu Aqla Keikel, a senior RSF commander and de facto governor for Al Jazira State, to the town’s suburb on Sunday morning.
“Sha’eddin was killed this morning after he and his forces briefly entered the city and then they were attacked by the terrorist RSF from their directions, one in the East, one in the south and the other in the northwestern parts of the city,” said an SAF officer.
The army has not yet confirmed the incident, but photos of the slain commander are circulating on pro-RSF social media accounts.
“This is a major loss for the army,” another security source said. “Sha’eddin was a brave and experienced commander.”
