Saudi Arabia asks Kiir to present investment proposal for consideration

This comes following a meeting on Monday between President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the Saudi Minister of State for African Affairs Ahmed Bin Abdul Aziz who is currently on a one-day visit to Juba.

JUBA — The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has asked the government of South Sudan to present a proposal for investment that will be considered by the Saudi government, according to a statement by the presidency.

This comes following a meeting on Monday between President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the Saudi Minister of State for African Affairs Ahmed Bin Abdul Aziz who is currently on a one-day visit to Juba.

“Monday 7th June 2021- His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan met with Saudi Arabia Minister of State for African Affairs, Ahmed Bin Abdul Aziz Qattan and discussed various issues of bilateral interest between South Sudan and Saudi Arabia,” the presidency statement said.

The statement said “The President appreciated the support given to South Sudan by Saudi Arabia over the past years and acknowledged the cooperation between the two Countries in areas of bilateral interest and expressed South Sudan’s desire to continue consolidating and deepening cooperation with Saudi Arabia.”

Speaking to the media following the high-level meeting, South Sudan’s minister of foreign affairs Beatrice Khamisa said the two counties will sign a memorandum of understanding soon “to deepen the relations between South Sudan and Saudi Arabia from strength to strength and to create opportunities for steady economic partnerships between the two Countries.”

Khamisa further revealed that “Saudi Arabia has requested South Sudan to present in investment projects for consideration by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

For his part, the minister Abdul Aziz said he “conveyed the greetings and congratulations of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit,” on the progress made in the revitalized peace agreement.

He added that he also “discussed with H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit investment opportunities and grants that Saudi Arabia development fund could offer to South Sudan in areas of education, health and agriculture.”
