PORT SUDAN, OCTOBER 22, 2023 (SUDANS POST) –The deputy head of Sudan’s military, Lieutenant General Shams Al-Din Al-Kabashi, arrived in Port Sudan on Sunday and met with the head of the military, Lieutenant General Abdelfattah El-Burhan.

Kabashi fled Khartoum on Saturday after sneaking out of the General Commander of the Armed Forces in central Khartoum. The army command headquarters has been besieged by the rebellious Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since the outbreak of war last April.

Kabashi’s flight comes barely two months after Al-Burhan, who was besieged with him at the general army command, fled the capital and moved to work from Port Sudan, the temporary capital of the war-torn country.

In a statement, the media center of the Transitional Sovereign Council, which is headed by Al-Burhan, said that the two generals met in Port Sudan, but did not disclose what the two discussed.

The meeting comes amid the worsening humanitarian situation which has engulfed the country since the outbreak of violence.

It also comes amid reports that the army and the RSF are preparing for another round of talks in Saudi Arabia to attempt a negotiated settlement to the power struggle.
