JUBA – South Sudan has acquired about 12,000 square meters of land at Djibouti Port to ease importation of goods and exportation of crude oil, according to oil minister Puot Kang Chol.

Chol while speaking during the opening session of the two-day National Oil & Power Conference 2022 in Juba revealed that the piece of land was purchased by his ministry to facilitate the business.

“We have only been using Port Sudan and Mombasa but recently, and we have decided go to Djibouti and as I am speaking to you, we are given a land in Djibouti as South Sudan and that land is procured by the Ministry of Petroleum 12,000 square meters at the port,” he said.

Chol said the land will play a crucial role in the effective movement of cargo locally and to the transit markets.

“I would like to announce to all of you as we have been pushing to make sure we open all our ways because as you all know, South Sudan is a landlocked country, and therefore, there is a need for all of us to try our level best to have access to the market,” he added.

He further said they will facilitate goods destined for South Sudan through the Port of Djibouti.

“If any of you have goods and you want to bring them through Djibouti, we have land and we will have a space for you to accommodate your materials,” he said.
