JUBA – A South Sudan activist has formed a new environmental group to fight environmental degradation in the world’s youngest country, according to a statement extended to Sudans Post on Tuesday.

Philip Ayuen Dot, a Juba-based activist, said in the statement that the aim of the newly established group which he named South Sudan Environmental Advocates (SSEA) would be to push for “a viable society that Prevent, restore and protect Environment by reducing degradation and building green, healthy and sustainable ecosystem in the communities by empowering the society.”

“South Sudan Environmental Advocates (SSEA) is an environmental organization that seeks to create awareness of environmental challenges in South Sudan and assist in solving them. As the newest Country in the world, the country is blessed with diverse biodiversity, valuable minerals and a resilient population,” added the statement.

The statement shed light on the alarming global challenge of climate change  saying the group is concerned over challenges such as the “climate change, waste management, deforestation, air and water pollution and flooding are some of the issues the country is grappling with.”
