JUBA – South Sudan’s Council of Ministers on Friday approved a $9 million budget to facilitate the national basketball team’s participation in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris, Deputy Minister of Information Jacob Mijok Korok announced.

The decision follows a request by Sports Minister Dr. Joseph Geng Akech for funding to support the team’s Olympic campaign.

“The minister presented a budget of $9 million to cater for the national team and their delegation traveling to attend the Olympic Games in Paris,” Korok said after a cabinet meeting.

“The Council of Ministers approved the budget and directed the Ministry of Finance to secure the resources to facilitate our team for these important games,” he added.

Korok explained that the budget covers expenses for the team, potential fans traveling to support them, government delegations, and accommodation.

“This budget encompasses many things, starting from the team itself down to the fans, even the government delegation and accommodation,” he said.

“There is a detailed breakdown of this $9 million; it’s a very broad and comprehensive budget,” he added.
