JUBA, JUNE 1, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan government on Wednesday decried the decision by the United Nations to extend its arms embargo against the country, saying it ignores progress made in implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

The U.N. Security Council on Tuesday morning extended – for another year – the arms embargo on South Sudan with protests from the world’s newest nation and abstentions from Russia, China, and the council’s three African nations sympathetic to its demands that sanctions be lifted.

In a statement, South Sudan’s ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation said that the decision for the extension does not consider what it calls a progress in the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement signed in 2018.

“The UNSC Resolution of May 30th, 2023, renewing sanctions and the arms embargo on the country, is deplorable,” the statement said.

“It has not taken into account the significant strides that the Government has made in implementing the Revitalized Agreement for the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) as well as developmental progress in the country,” it added.

The statement said that the United States, who drafted the resolution, is “is oblivious to the suffering of the people of South Sudan.”

It added that sanctions “do not only affect the targeted segments but also trade, commerce, and the economy, in addition to the very peace and security that the proponents of the resolution are purportedly trying to maintain.”

Once more, arm embargo had been enforced on South Sudan due to the fact that South Sudan plunged into a very difficultef war which implicated international business to developed and progressed according to so many reports wrote by UN agencies operating in Sudan South. The war of 2013 according me was instituted and back up by external forces, reason being the external forces themselves are very happy in term of the way the current government mistreat them.

Machar, the main causer of 2013 crisis has signed an agreement to be named revitalized peace accord with counterpart or in partnership with Salva Kiir Mayardit, but the challenge of the peace remains like this, it is inclusive and that is why arm embargo stand still applicable to South Sudan up to now. According to UN Security Council, it stated on their report that South Sudan has no rights to participates on the crisis and war torn Dr. Congo, that one alone is the credible evidence that annoyed the world attention toward Sudan South. My suggestion and opinion is like this, let the current peace be inclusive and let the Splm led Salva Kiir stopped campaigning, because it is not the time to campaign, reason being the country is on the mess up due to economic crisis we are seeing together on social media platform. The ongoing war in Sudan is another problematic to the political arena or atmosphere to South Sudan because now the only conducive area for living is Juba and all corners of South Sudan, and it seems that South Sudan politics is meddled by the same outsiders, and up to now South Sudan national army remains in nightmare. I request and suggest for South Sudan to withdraw from ongoing war in Dr. Congo.
