JUBA, APRIL 24, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s ministry of foreign affairs announced in a statement on Monday that the country’s embassy in the Sudanese capital Khartoum will remain open, despite deadly clashes that have sparked massive foreign evacuation.

Sudan last week descended into a deadly conflict after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, the notorious militia commander popularly known by Hemedti, attacked government and army positions in the capital Khartoum.

The fighting in the capital Khartoum has sparked chaotic evacuations of diplomatic missions in the capital Khartoum with warnings that the conflict may turn into a civil war.

In a statement, South Sudan’s government which has no plan for evacuation of citizens said it is only ready to receive its citizens fleeing the violence in Sudan, where at least 10,000 people have already arrived in the country.

“On the situation of South Sudanese, the Government is doing everything within its power to receive South Sudanese citizens who are returning to their country,” the foreign ministry said.

“In the last 24 hours nearly 10, 000 arrived in Renk including Nationals of some neighboring countries. Hundreds of others have arrived in Northern and Western Bahr El Ghazal States,” it added.

It further said that the country’s embassy in Khartoum will remain open, but non-essential staff will be evacuated.

“The Embassy of the Republic of South Sudan in Khartoum will not be closed. However, non-essential staff will be evacuated,” it said.
