JUBA – South Sudan’s Directorate of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passports, and Immigration on Thursday warned its officials against the illegal collection of extra passport fees from citizens.

This warning came following reports that immigration officials are charging citizens extra money for the processing of passports and national identity.

Lt. Gen. Atem Marol Biar, the Director General for Civil Registry, Nationality, Passport, and Immigration promised to take legal action against any officials found taking exorbitant fees in passport fees from citizens.

“Any person who pays or accepts any fees that exceed the mentioned official fees will be taken to court and face the full powers of the law,” Gen. Biar in a statement issued on Thursday.

Gen. Biar said Nationality IDs cost between 2050 SSP and 4000 SSP while regular passports cost 4500 SSP and business passports 30,000 SSP.

The immigration chief cautioned citizens against paying extra fees to acquire a passport, nationality, or national ID.

“No official should accept any extra payment from any person in order to facilitate the issuance of passports nationality and national ID,” he said.
