Elaish Chang Gatkuoth, Deputy Chairperson for the Bureau of Hajj Affairs, said Saudi Arabia has allocated 1,360 spots for South Sudanese pilgrims.
“We are calling interested pilgrims to register at the office of the Islamic Council in all the 10 States, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has given us 1360 opportunities, we are ready to facilitate processing of visas and other requirements for the pilgrimage,” said Gatkuoth during a press conference in Juba today.
“We have reached out to the Ministry of Hajj Affairs in Saudi Arabia, the cost is 5,000 U.S dollars that will cater for your accommodation, feeding and other costs until you return to South Sudan,” he disclosed.
This year’s Hajj is expected to take place from May 20 to June 10, 2024.
Mohamed Mak Ayang, Director of Hajj and Umrah Affairs, outlined the eligibility criteria: male pilgrims must be below 60 years of age and women under 45 must travel with a spouse or close relative.
“The opportunity for registration is open for a month from March 11 to April 11, we need those with a valid passport not less than 6 months to expiry, those who have are interested can come for registration at the nearest office of the Islamic Council,” said Ayang.
Garkuoth emphasized that priority will be given to South Sudanese citizens.
