The pledge was made during one-day visit of Vice Chancellor of Zetech University Njenga Munene to Upper Nile University this morning in Juba.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting on Friday, Prof. Marial Awou Yol, Vice Chancellor of Upper Nile University said the visit of Vice Chancellor of Zetech University Njenga Munene will strengthen bilateral academic cooperation between the two countries.
“This morning we had a delegation from Zetech University from Kenya. They came to visit us to explore chances of join work and collaborative work between our two universities Zetech University and Upper Nile,” Awou told journalists on Friday.
Awow said the meeting talked about joined work and exchange programs of students and join research cooperation.
“University is not an island but an integrated system of schools of higher learning between countries where they work together jointly to tackle problem facing countries like political problems, economic and social environment,” Awou said.
“These are areas where researchers and academics can come together and do research to find solutions to problems facing citizens of any country,” he added.
Njenga Munene, Vice Chancellor of Zetech University said two universities agreed to build capacities and strengthen academic research.
“We had a meeting and we agreed on areas that we think need collaboration. There was a breakthrough in the sense that the decision was cordial in what we are supposed to do,” Munene said.
“Whether we are teaching information technology in Kenya or in Upper Nile University, it is the same application for the University of Upper Nile as they prepared to go back to Malakal,” he said.
“We will work to strengthen ICT both at diploma level and degree level and we will even be supportive of that collaborating with countries in primal in term of regional integration,” he added.
