JUBA – A South Sudan lawmaker in the country’s Western Bahr el Ghazal state has succumbed to injuries after having been involved in in a gristly road accident on Thursday evening, officials there have said.
Ernesto Paulino Apinyi was reportedly coming from a funeral when the car overturned along the Wau-Aweil road, killing at least two unnamed citizens on spot, while others, including Hon. Paulino, were rushed to a hospital in Wau.
“Honorable Bol Paulino Apinyi, he is a son of our sister. He died yesterday at 8 am at the hospital and I was present at the hospital, I saw him when he died,” Peter Buola, one of those who were hospitalized after the accident, is quoted by Radio Tamazuj as saying.
Mawut Athian, a member of parliament in Western Bahr el Ghazal who was also one of those who incurred injuries following the accident, said the deceased lawmaker complained of chest pain prior to his death.
“When the accident happened, we overturned and we got out. I was the first person who got up and I picked him up and asked him about his health and he was pointing at his chest,” Athian said.
