JUBA — The office of the clerk in the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA) has announced that newly appointed members of the reconstituted National Assembly and Council of States will be sworn-in on Friday which also coincides with martyrs’ day.
“The office of clerk to Transitional National Legislature, RSS, hereby announces that the swearing-in of honorable of two houses is scheduled for Friday, 30th, July 2021 at freedom Hall at 11:00 A.M,” said a letter extended to Sudans Post.
Both the upper and lower houses were reconstituted by President Salva Kiir Mayardit in May when he appointed over 500 politicians representing different parties to the revitalized peace agreement as lawmakers.
But the lawmakers are yet to be sworn in.
Parties to the peace deal dragged reconstitution of both upper and lower houses for over a year despite the formation of the executive arm of the government.
Observers say the lack of a functional parliament made it difficult for the enactment of laws that assist the transitional processes, including reforms spelled out in the peace agreement.
