JUBA – South Sudan government has announced lifting of the coronavirus lockdown that it imposed in early March, according to a statement by the country’s vice-president for service cluster Hussein Abdelbaggi Ayii.

Announcing the decision, Hussein also urged the public to continue observing coronavirus protocols and measures that the world health organization, as well as the government, has put in place to curtail its spread.

“After a thorough consultation with stakeholders, it gives me a great pleasure to announce lifting of the COVID-19 partial lockdown that its effectiveness expired on 4th April 2021, following a decrease in Covid-19 infection rate as the National Laboratory announced 16 positive cases for the last 24hrs, a number of infections greater than previous days,” Hussein said this evening.

“Therefore, I am urging the public to strictly follow the Country’s COVID-19 guidelines to tame further spreading of the virus,” he added during the statement issued via the state-owned South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation.
