JUBA – A local court in South Sudan’s Warrap state has issued an arrest warrant against the country’s minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management Peter Mayen Majongdit for stabbing his wife, a female footballer better known as Aluel Messi – almost to death.
According to local officials in Kuajok, the capital of the restive Warrap state, Mayen beat his wife last weekend and the family of the wife came to the rescue of their daughter which also let to a brief confrontation with the minister.
“Now Minister Peter Mayen is wanted by the court in Kuajok because he beat and stabbed his wife almost killing her, when the family came to rescue her, he wanted to the resist which led to a confrontation but which was later on contained,” the local official who requested not to be named said.
“Now, the police are looking for him because an arrest warrant has been issued against him for the crime which he has done. The arrest warrant has been sent to Juba and he will be wanted in the court soon,” the official added.
Meanwhile contacts by Sudans Post to Mayen’s office were unsuccessful as an aide told said “I am not going to comment because it is a personal matter of Peter Mayen and his family and does not need any media attention.”
The latest development comes months after Mayen disrupted a women football match in Aweil where his wife who had given birth three months early was taking parts. He shot in the air to disperse a group of crowd who were unhappy of the disruption of the match.
Yesterday, he was his appointment to the reconstituted parliament was revoked by President Salva Kiir. All other members of the Other Political Parties (OPP) led by him were also removed from the parliament.
