JUBA – South Sudan’s opposition leader Peter Biar Ajak, head of the Revive South Sudan Party (RSSP), has declared that he will not return to his homeland without receiving security guarantees from the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

Biar, currently residing in the United States, expressed deep concerns about his safety in an interview with Sudans Post on Sunday. He cited past detentions, threats, and the deaths of his acquaintances as reasons for his apprehension.

“I’m not coming without guarantees,” Biar stated firmly. “This is someone who has detained me for two years and killed my friends, those of Kerbino. I narrowly escaped, and this is why I’m now in the United States.”

Biar urged Kiir to publicly declare an amnesty to demonstrate his commitment to ensuring his safety. He also disclosed an ongoing civil suit against him in Nairobi, Kenya, which remains unresolved despite his apology over the KTN interview.

“If he genuinely wants to show that he harbors no ill intentions against me, let him issue a public amnesty. Let him go on record and issue a public amnesty. Why is that so difficult for him to do?” Biar questioned.

He further asserted that Kiir has rejected his request for a meeting during the president’s recent visit to the United States. “He refused,” Biar added.
