JUBA – South Sudan’s Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA) has said that the December 2024 general election will proceed as planned, addressing public concerns about potential delays.
“The elections will be conducted as scheduled and there will be no extension of the transitional period,” John Agany Deng, Chairperson of the TNLA’s information committee, said while speaking to reporters today.
South Sudan’s last election, originally scheduled for 2015, was disrupted by civil war. Citizens are now eager for a fair and transparent electoral process reflecting their will.
Concerns stem from the country’s history of political instability and the desire for a peaceful transition of power.
The government and stakeholders are urged to address these concerns and ensure a successful, credible election.
Citizens hope this election marks a milestone in South Sudan’s democratic journey and paves the way for a brighter future.
