Speaking to Sudans Post on Tuesday, John Agany Deng, Chairperson of the Information Committee, and assembly spokesman said several bills are expected to be presented before the House during this session of Parliament.
“I think, hopefully, maybe next week because we always open either in the first week of the new month or the second,” said Agany.
Originally, members of the national parliament were scheduled for a three-month recess, during which many MPs would visit their constituencies.
However, during an extraordinary meeting at Freedom Hall to mark the end of the 2023 sessions, Speaker Kumba announced a revised recess period, stating that she had coordinated with President Salva Kiir and they both agreed to a shorter break.
Transitional National Legislative Assembly went on a one-and-half month recess on 15 December 2023 after passing several bills.
They were expected to resume their duties in the first week of February 2024, but the assembly will now open in the second week of February 2024.
