“The tenth anniversary of our country’s independence is passing and our country is going through a phase of remarkable political and security stability. It requires all of us to join efforts to achieve the legitimate aspirations and dreams of our people for independence, by working wholeheartedly to implement the terms of the revitalized peace agreement, which will be the main entrance to the return of stability,” the statement added.
The SSPM is a signatory to the revitalized peace agreement signed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit and a number of opposition groups. “We, in the South Sudan Patriotic Movement (SSPM), hope that the tenth anniversary of independence will be an occasion to stand with oneself and review our experience in the light of the history of the common struggle of our people, and that all political parties in the country, in all colors of their spectrum, strive to overcome past differences and internal divisions and work to stop the suffering of our people and appeal to the voice of Reason, peace is our only way to return our country to the platform of foundation and then launch it towards broader horizons,” the statement further added.
