JUBA – South Sudan has paid $ 1.5 million of $ 8.4 million membership arrears it owes the East African Community.

In October 2019, East African Community threatened to kick out South Sudan over failure to pay its membership fee after becoming the bloc’s largest debtor since joining in 2016.

All member states of the EAC are required to pay $8 million as contributions annually.

However, the African’s youngest nation in October 2019 remitted $3 million of the $27 million it owes the EAC Secretariat.

In his remarks during the 21st Ordinary African Community Heads of States Summit on Saturday via video conference, President Kiir remitted the sum of USD 1.5 million as its first tranche.

“I appealed to EAC’s Secretariat to work with South Sudan officials to restructure the amount South Sudan owes to the EAC and this should be done with the goal of finding a suitable formula for installment repayment over an agreed upon time period,” Kiir said.

The EAC summit was attended by President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda, Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya, Samia Suluhu of Tanzania, and Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi.

Mayardit appealed to his counterparts for a visa waiver among the East African Countries.

“It is in our best interest to ease the movement of people and goods within the region in order to facilitate trade and investment as well as contributing to our end goal of East African regional integration,” he said.

This is a wasting money for East Africa membership. The right membership is the AU and UN membership these are important that should be obtained. The East Africa has to signed free trade agreements and that is all need. It doesn’t make any sense to me, when the government agrees to set up East Africa Parliament while, the whole Africa continent has not United as one States. I think the South Sudan government should have not joined it because right now we don’t produce anything to export to others countries. I want East Africa membership to be put on hold until we are able to produced our product in South Sudan. $ 8 million can build manufacturing in South Sudan why wasting money for what?

    *We are the Ancient Egyptian fools*. $ 1.5 plus $.01 is equal (1.5 +0.1) = $ 1.6. And

square root $1.6, and you will get $.04 ,and square root $ 0.04 and you will get $ 0.2. Square root . Watch out fools. This is nothing to mathematics, but *arithmetic*. 1 +0 = 9?!! Good luck.
