JUBA, MARCH 13, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan peace guarantors on Monday called on President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his first deputy Dr. Riek Machar Teny to make a fresh push to fully implement the 2018 peace agreement.

The African Union Mission in South Sudan (AUMISS), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) made the call in a joint statement seen by Sudans Post.

“Following consultations with high-level Government parties by AUMISS, IGAD, and UNMISS, the partners wish to once again encourage renewed focus by all signatories to the Revitalized Peace Agreement as outlined in the roadmap, for its full and timely implementation,” they said.

The peace guarantors welcomed the recent meeting between Kiir and Machar which discussed the contentious removal of defense minister Angelina Teny and urged the parties to maintain collegial collaboration, continuous consultations, and consensus-building in the spirit of the peace agreement.

“The partners reiterate their full support for the efforts of all stakeholders and the leaders of South Sudan towards the success of the peace process and the completion of the roadmap,” they said.
