JUBA – South Sudan Inspector General of Police, Gen. Atem Marol Biar, on Thursday instructed Maj. Gen. Simon Majur Pabek, Director General for the Directorate of Nationality, Civil Registry, Passport, and Immigration, to begin deploying immigration officers to various embassies abroad.
General Biar believes that deploying immigration officers to foreign missions will streamline the process of obtaining visas and e-passports.
“I might be the only Director General who left without deploying any officers to foreign missions,” he said during the reception of Maj. Gen. Pabek, “and I have my reasons. Their term of one year abroad is over. I want you to handle deployment because you are in a position of authority.”
He clarified that the mandate of the 114 immigration officers previously stationed abroad ended a year ago.
“You are free to act,” he reiterated to Maj. Gen. Pabek. “No one will obstruct you. When I held this position, I formed a committee to address the issue of balanced representation.
Gen. Biar urged the newly appointed Director General to prioritize fairness in deployment.
“Last year, I proposed giving each state five positions,” he explained. “You can decide how to fill the remaining positions, but prioritize the states. Develop clear criteria so everyone can participate fairly.”
