Sergeant Mathew Madool, 42, reportedly had a heated argument with his wife, Corporal Suszan Nyanachiek Ater, before taking his own life, according to Major Elijah Mabor Makuach, the Lakes State police spokesperson.
“We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Sergeant Madool,” Makuach told Sudans Post. “His wife has been detained for questioning as part of the investigation.”
While the exact cause of the argument remains unclear, the incident has sent shockwaves through the community. Neighbors expressed their disbelief and sorrow over the tragedy.
“I heard a loud bang and then silence,” said a neighbor who requested anonymity. “I went to check and found the officer lying in a pool of blood. It’s a terrible loss.”
Another neighbor described the couple as generally quiet and seemingly happy. “I can’t believe this happened,” the neighbor said. “Something must have gone terribly wrong.”
