South Sudan police officer shot dead in Jonglei by unidentified assailants

A senior South Sudan police officer in the country's restive Jonglei state has been killed along with two other civilians by unidentified gunmen while return from Pagak to Uror County, Duk County Commissioner John Chatim has said.

JUBA – A senior South Sudan police officer in the country’s restive Jonglei state has been killed along with two other civilians by unidentified gunmen while return from Pagak to Uror County, Duk County Commissioner John Chatim has said.

The senior local government official said the officer was returning from a traditional marriage ceremony in Dut to Uror County and were ambushed by the unknown assailant at Pagak area of Duk.

“On Sunday afternoon, a group of seven men was heading to Uror from the Pagak area where they had attended a marriage ceremony. Reaching a place called Wangkachuol, they were ambushed by five people, including four armed men. So, two of them were killed and one injured,” Chatim said, according to Radio Tamazuj.

The official said those who escaped haven’t been wounded and said the criminals are still at large.

“The incident has shocked us in the county. We lost a police 2nd Lt. called Nyok Mabil Tor, we also lost a young man called Duoth Chuol while Luol Chuol was wounded,” he added.
