JUBA – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has hinted at not participating in the upcoming elections saying new faces who have never served in the government will take over the leadership when elections are conducted at the end of the country’s transitional period in 2023.
Kiir who is also the chairman of the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party made the remarks during a meeting with members of the SPLM Youth League in Juba on Saturday in which he called for timely conduct of elections to end the country’s unending wars at the end of the transitional period.
“When we go for elections, new faces will come in, not from the people who are working in the government now, but people you haven’t seen before and that way we will have peace in our country. From now, you prepare yourselves to engage with the grassroots, so that they know the program of the SPLM,” Kiir said.
The South Sudan president however did not specify who was going to take over from among the youth at the end of the transitional period, but there have been speculations in recent months that the president is preparing his son, Thiik Mayardit, for the leadership after appointing him as deputy executive director in the office of the president.
Kiir’s comments also comes after the People’s Coalition for Civil Action (PCCA) called for a popular uprising against Kiir’s government accusing it of failing to achieve promises made during the liberation struggle to the people of South Sudan.
I think the President Salva Kiir Mayardit will not think about leaving leadership to his own Son because he has no experience, also it is dangerous in South Sudan to do such a nepotism in the government. I believe there are qualified candidates in South Sudan to take leadership. If the President is not handling power to honorable Nhial Deng Nhial then, all Sons of SPLM founders including President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s family will not be recognizing by South Sudanese people. Take a look of example from Uhuru kenyatta when his father hand over power to Daniel Arap Moi and when his son thought about leadership perhaps, he was elected President of Kenya.
Honorable Nhial Deng Nhial is absolutely fitting to be President of South Sudan not because his father was killed in the name of South Sudanese problems but also he is educated person, he knew how to address the foreign policy and he also has a skills of leadership particularly, on how to resolve or negotiate on something like the CPA. The big problems in South Sudan are 1 misunderstanding and accepting each others as the people of one country 2 tribalism that need smart leader to change our mindset and it will not be change by being the warmonger leader but the leader must be honest person, moderate educated person to reach a cross the country and uniquely Ideas of bringing people togetherness. 3 nepotism is the common disease affecting South Sudanese people and honorable Nhial Deng Nhial is not against anyone in South Sudan and he had studied law in Sudan and he study others things and I think he will set up the government system in the way our people will respect the rules of law, business regulation, others will be abiding by laws. Nobody will be worried about Army skills, the Military leadership will take cares.
In addition to that, I am also thinking about Dr. Dhieu Mathok Diing, I had been observing him and he seemed to loved development and yes, South Sudan nation need a leader who turned things around. We should have constructed manufacturing in South Sudan in the last 10 years so that, the issue of youths and jobless be address. He is honest even though he rebelling against government thus, nobody is perfectly in this world but I hope he will do the job. Governor of Unity State Dr. Nyuen Monytuiel is also a good leader. Unity State was very terrible during the last 6-7 years the SPLA I0 wars and government but he did what he could to make sure the foundation stick in there. I think there are many people will be qualified for President in South Sudan rather than thinking about the Son of President at this point. Thiik Kiir Mayardit is very young boy and he will has to learn from those who have experience before him.handing leadership to him will cause a big problem even within Dinka themselves belief me.
That is the way of leadership is being practiced world wide, if you want to take power wait for election ,don’t restrict the whole nation for your own concerns to lead you to power. We have say that let Gen Salvakiir mayardit continue to lead the nation ahead until further notice accordingly, no one else should interrupt his good way toward achievement
You are a liar my dear, its you and others who want to take power from General Salvakiir mayardit that practice nepotism and tribalism restrict people from employment because they’re scattered themselves into all government positions and NGOS plus companies carrying out their duties to fail the government by the cool war. Iam requesting all my fellow brethren who are remaining trusting our president General Salvakiir mayardit to work hard and look closely at those who want to let you down. Not our president alone to go out when they come to power. All of us should go out as they were wishing, but I am assuring you that thier hope will not come into reality
