JUBA – South Sudan rebel United Democratic Revolutionary Movement/Army (UDRM/A), led by Thomas Tut Doap Jiek has announced that it has appointed a new spokesman for the movement, weeks after the group’s leader was replaced.

During a mid-night meeting in August, senior members of the UDRM/A decided to replace the group’s leader Dr. Gatwech Koang Thiech Zuor with his then deputy Thomas Tut Doap. The group’s Secretary-General Deng Vanang was elevated to become the deputy chairman.

“Soon the new Chairman and Commander-in- Chief, Thomas Tut Doap Jiek will restructure the Leadership Council as well as appointment UDRA’s Chief of General Staff in due course,” Deng Vanang, the deputy chairman of the UDRM/A said at the time.

In a statement extended to Sudans Post, Tut said he has appointed Doctor Thach Chiek as the new Secretary of Information, Public Relations and Publicity, saying the appointment is effective upon the release of the statement

“I, Thomas Tut Doap Jiek, Chairman and Commander in Chief of the UDRM/A, do hereby appoint Austaz Doctor Thach Chiek as Secretary of Information, Public Relations and Publicity effective upon the date of this release,” he said in the statement.

UDRM/A is a South Sudan holdout opposition group active in several parts of Upper Nile region and is a member of the holdout South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) led by General Thomas Cirilo Swaka.
