JUBA – The government of South Sudan’s Unity State over the weekend recovered around 500 heads of cattle stolen from Sudanese Arabs Misseriya herders by armed youth, an official said on Tuesday.

Gatwech Biphal Both, the state’s minister of information and telecommunications, told Sudans Post that the cattle were raided in an area located along the Sudan-South Sudan border in Rubkona County.

“The Unity State government directed the security personnel to recover the Misseriya cattle that were raided over the weekend, and the cattle were recovered from there by security organized forces, including SSPDF soldiers,” Both said.

He explained that the Misseriya herders had been displaced by the ongoing conflict in Sudan and were vulnerable to attacks.

“The cattle were returned to their owners yesterday, and the security situation in the area is now stable,” Both said.
