JUBA – Health workers in South Sudan’s Nimule town are reporting that they are investigating at least one suspected case of Ebola virus, less than a week after the deadly disease’s outbreak in neighboring Uganda where dozens of people have died.

Authorities in Uganda declared Ebola outbreak on September 20, after a man, 24, was tested positive for the virus.

The cases have since surged to at least 24 deaths (including 18 probable cases). Meanwhile 50 cases (including 31 confirmed cases) have been recorded.

A health official who requested not to be identified for having no permission to speak to the media said the case is being investigated and that the health authorities who are deployed by the central government will inform the public soon through the ministry of health.

“Yes, it is true we have identified one suspected Ebola case and this person came from Uganda about a few days ago and his contacts are also being traced. After we get the results, we will inform the public through the ministry [of health] accordingly,” the health worker said.
