JUBA – South Sudan government security agencies on Wednesday revoked an initial security clearance for a concert being organized by popular South Sudanese singer and peace activist Emmanuel Jal Jock.
Jal, who was a child soldier, had promised fans of a peace concert that would take place in Juba on 8th April 2022 in a bid to try to unite the people for the implementation of the 2018 peace agreement.
But in a statement this morning, Jal said government security agencies in Juba have revoked the clearance, forcing him and his team to indefinitely postpone the highly celebrated event.
“We would like to inform you that the peace concert has been denied permission to go ahead by our government,” he said in the statement a copy of which has been obtained by Sudans Post.
While the singer stress that the decision of the government to not provide a clearance for the event, he said it was disappointing especially for those who have already bought tickets though they would be refunded.
“We have issued an appeal for the permission to be granted for the time being we will cancel the date of 8th April 2022 and we will inform you when we are allowed to go ahead,” the statement said.
“It is really disappointing indeed. Anyone who bought a ticket shall be issued a refund please contact our organizers or the person who issued you the ticket,” the statement further said.
