South Sudan to graduate last batch of peace forces from phase one on Friday

South Sudan’s parties to the revitalized peace agreement will on Friday graduate the last batch of the necessary unified forces in Unity State’s capital Bentiu on Friday, a senior military officer has said.

JUBA, JANUARY 11TH 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s parties to the revitalized peace agreement will on Friday graduate the last batch of the necessary unified forces in Unity State’s capital Bentiu on Friday, a senior military officer has said.

Brig. Gen. Wijang Duop, the spokesman of the forces of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) told Sudans Post in an interview this evening that the peace forces will graduate in Bentiu on Friday, January 13, 2023.

“This is to inform the public that the last batch of the necessary unified forces in phase one of the security arrangement will be graduate in Bentiu on Friday morning and the forces from all the parties have been told to report to where the graduation will take place,” he said.

The senior opposition official who was in Juba at the time of writing this report said that the function will be attended by senior government officials such as the minster of defense Angelina Teny and the presidential advisor on security affairs Tut Gatluak.

“This will be a very remarkable function and it will be attended senior government officials and I can mention two of those officials. They are the honorable minister of defense Angelina Teny and the honorable presidential advisor on security affairs Tut Gatluak Manimeh,” he added.

He further said that cantonment and training of the peace forces in phase two of the security arrangements will immediately begin following the graduation of the last batch of the unified forces in Bentiu.

“After this function, the cantonment, assembly and training of the forces in phase two will commence and we will expect to graduate them by the end of the year, meaning that before the end of this year 2023, we will have the forces in phase two graduated,” he added.
