JUBA – South Sudan’s Ministry of Youth and Sports on Tuesday introduced the Sport Development Policy 2024-2030, a roadmap aimed at revolutionizing sports development across the country.
The policy was presented by Dr. Joseph Geng Akech, Minister of Youth and Sports, during a session of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly in Juba, chaired by Speaker Dr. Jemma Nunu Kumba.
The seven-year policy seeks to establish a comprehensive framework for initiating, developing, and promoting sports nationwide. It includes plans to construct and renovate stadiums in South Sudan’s ten states and three administrative areas by 2030.
“The purchase of sports equipment and uniform, construction of Olympic village or complex, which was pledged by His Excellency the President of the Republic,” Geng said.
The minister also outlined provisions for developing sports academies and clubs with the involvement of the private sector.
“The general objective of the Sports Development Policy is to empower youth through sports thereby fostering a sense of national pride, unity, and community development in our country,” he said.
Geng highlighted plans to foster grassroots talent development, enhance the capacity of sports associations to deliver programs such as national leagues, and promote widespread sports participation among youth.
