JUBA, MARCH 16, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s first vice president and main armed opposition SPLM-IO leader Riek Machar Teny on Wednesday unveiled a new official portrait of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
The new portrait depicts President Salva Kiir in a blue suit, with a red tie and his trademark hat, with the South Sudan flag in the background.
During the ceremony held to unveil the portrait held in Juba on Wednesday, Machar said the presidential portrait should now be used in all public offices in the country.
“This is an event that is a national event because it unveils the current portrait of the President and as explained by Dr. Barnaba, there is always one distinct picture or photograph or portrait of the head of state for all the people to know and also for the rest of the world to know,” he said.
He expressed his hope that the portrait would become the official image of President Kiir throughout South Sudan.
“It is an important day that now I have unveiled this portrait and, in our offices, whether government offices or in the private sector this is the portrait that you are expected to display,” he said.
Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, Minister of Presidential Affairs pointed out that the portrait is a symbol of unity.
“We have portraits for various countries as symbols of the national presence of a particular nation,” said Marial.
