JUBA – South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and the newly-appointed United Nations Mission in South Sudan head and Special Representative of the Secretary-General Nicolas Haysom met this afternoon in the country’s capital Juba.
According to Machar’s office, the two men discussed, beside the implementation of South Sudan’s revitalized peace agreement, sensitive regional issues which a statement by the FVP”s office said could lead to instability in the Horn of Africa.
Speaking to the media following what is his first meeting with Machar as a UN South Sudan envoy, Haysom said he “discussed regional issues, particularly in the Horn of Africa, which could cause instability and have implications.”
He further “emphasized on the need for dialogue among the stakeholders in South Sudan.”
