JUBA – South Sudan’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Manawa Peter Gatkuoth Gual is travelling to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa tomorrow to attend a meeting of the Eastern Nile Council of Ministers (ENCOM) which is set to begin on Tuesday, an aide told Sudans Post this evening.

The Eastern Nile Council of Ministers (ENCOM) is the governing body of the Eastern Nile Subsidiary Action Program (ENSAP) of the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI), and the Tuesday meeting will discuss challenges facing the basin, such as population growth, rapid urbanization, high economic growth rates and climate change.

Speaking to Sudans Post this evening, Nhial Riek Bimuon, minister Manawa’s office executive director, said the minister will travel to Addis Ababa on Monday ahead of the high-level regional meeting set for Tuesday.

“The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of South Sudan Hon. Manawa Peter Gatkuoth will travel to Addis Ababa tomorrow to attend the meeting of the Eastern Nile Council of Ministers (ENCOM),” he said from Juba.

The ministerial aide said the high-level meeting “will discuss important regional issues that are bilaterally shared by the countries.”
