JUBA – A senior commander of South Sudan’s main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) has died in the country’s capital Juba, according to the group’s sector two information officer.
In a statement, Col. Kerbino Yai Pazale said Major-General John Tuthiang Layler passed on in Juba on Monday. The opposition media official did not disclose the reasons behind the death of the senior military officer.
“The SPLA IO sector two conveys this message of condolence to the family of deceased Major-General John Tuthiang Layler who passed on in Juba on September 9, 2024,” said the statement extended to Sudans Post.
Major Pazale described Layler as a “war veteran, a hero, and a great leader whose legacy would never be forgotten by those who fought with him during the liberation struggle that spanned 21 years.”
