SPLA-IO commanders allied to Machar, forces join Gen. Gatwech

In a statement extended to Sudans Post, SPLA-IO Kitgwang spokesman Brigadier-General William Gatjiath Deng said Major-General Tutnyang Gatkal Yien and his deputy Brigadier General Gorgak Jok along with other junior officers declared their support on Thursday to join the General Simon Gatwech Dual.

JUBA – The Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) faction led by former opposition chief of staff Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual has said that two senior SPLA-IO commander loyal to First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny in Upper Nile state’s sector three have declared their allegiance to the controversial opposition former controversial army chief.

In a statement extended to Sudans Post, SPLA-IO Kitgwang spokesman Brigadier-General William Gatjiath Deng said Major-General Tutnyang Gatkal Yien and his deputy Brigadier General Gorgak Jok along with other junior officers declared their support on Thursday to join the General Simon Gatwech Dual.

“The office of information for Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition SPLA (IO) would like to congratulates Gen. Tutnyang Gatkal Yien, and his deputy Brig. General Gorgak Jok Kuey, along with SPLA (IO) brave officers in Sector three (3) have today taken decision and broken silence to support Kit-Gwang declaration,” Gatjiath said.

“Moreover, the decision taken by the army commanders has also backed up by Brig. General Liyliy Yik Deng, the overall Commander of Local Defence Forces (LDF) under Sector three (3) and on top of this move, Lou-Nuer community leaders also paid undying support to Kit-Gwang declaration and their names are as follows,” he added.

The opposition mouthpiece further claimed that the Lou Nuer Community where General Simon Gatwech Dual comes from has declared its support for the Kitgwang faction saying the opposition commander has appealed for calm among the Lou-Nuer community population in the Greater Akobo.

“Hence, Lou-Nuer in general, have finally supported Kit-Gwang declaration under the leadership of the interim Chairman and Commander in Chief, (C-in-C) 1st/Lt-Gen Simon Gatwech Dual,” he said.

“Therefore, the Commander Tutnyang Gatkal Yien, and the elders are all calling for calm situation in Lou-Nuer land and officially informed those few individuals whose support might be under the former Chairman Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon, to leave the areas peacefully,” he added.
