JUBA – The SPLA-IO chief of intelligence, General Yiey Dak, has denied reports that he has fled to hiding in the Ethiopian city of Gambella over security threats he has reportedly been subjected to in South Sudan’s capital Juba.

Over the last two days, rumors had it that the top opposition intelligence official has been on the run after hearing information that South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) is hunting him down to possibly harm him.

In a statement this morning, General Dak said he has not fled the country and that he is still loyal to the main armed opposition group and its chairman, Dr. Riek Machar Teny who is also South Sudan’s First Vice President.

“I’m committed  member  of SPLA-IO under  the  leadership  of Dr Riek, me and the forces I’m leading, we all have  trust  on the leadership  of Dr. Machar,” General Dak said.

“For those who they don’t know me, let me assure you I’m not type of the person  who is running  after  money and positions,” he added.

He further warned against the use of his named in “changing  the leadership  of the moment [because] it will never  take you anywhere.”
