AWEIL – South Sudan’s ruling party (SPLM) chairperson in Aweil East County has been fired.

Mangar Mou Anyar was sacked last week amid claims that he supports South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), a coalition of political parties and armed groups.

The SPLM chairperson in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, William Kur Makur claimed Anyar has been a SSOA member ever since the entity joined the coalition government.

The youth leader’s sacking drew mixed reactions from several SPLM members.

A youth member who spoke on condition of anonymity lauded Anyar’s sacking.

“The SPLM youth league chairperson has been working for both camps and it is time he attended to one camp’s activities,” he told Sudan’s Post last week.

Another member said Anyar was a great orator who deserved a warning letter.

“They dismissed this man [who] is talkative and could amass supporters on behalf of the SPLM in the rally just at the twinkling of an eye,” she remarked.

The ruling party is yet to appoint a new county chairperson.
